MuscleBuilding Exercises and GrowthBoosters

I have 'emerged' some subtle bodybuilding techniques that infuse rapid muscle-growth to any trainee. You see, the factor of top intensity levels in combination with aggressive workouts that expel pure testosterone bursts, is the key to a fantastic muscular development.

Yesterday, another non-typical Chest & Biceps workout suffused my body to some *wondrous moments* of exhilaration and incredible muscle-inflation.

I got so pumped... That I could hardly weep the sweat out of my Forehead!

My adrenaline was sky-high, my heart pounded like a piston and there I was enjoying a spectacular workout, which was even better than...

SEX!

I have been distinguished for the small in duration, high in intensity and abbreviated in time muscle-building fundamentals.

Each and every weight-training session is of crucial importance!

Your mind must be mentally prepared for an inevitably brutal, scientifically structured bodybuilding schedule.

The most potent muscle-building exercises, those which command your body to reach new levels of muscle-growth, are Squats, Deadlifts and Bench Presses; combine these exercises astutely, in combination with the Ultimate Muscle-Building System (see http://bodybuildingtips.net) and a strategic infusion of SUPERSETS and MEGA SETS to succumb new signals of newly generated muscle-tissue.

These exercises will multiply your physical power at astoundingly rapid paces while increasing your metabolism; add to your dieting egg whites, red meat, pasta, rice, vegetables, pure protein, fibers and liquid-based creatine.

( see http://weighttrainingcenter.com/CreaBlast )

The astute combination of the testosterone boosting exercises and natural HGH releasing techniques that are induced during exercising with a short in duration, high-in-intensity and adrenaline peaking scheme... forced my body to grow to its' maximum capacity, while retaining my fantastic gains.

The most successful workouts are ideally inculcated within a 30-45' training session. I've even had tremendous responsiveness in new muscle-size by training even for as little as 25' per workout.

The secret to total muscular development is directly correlated with the factors of timing, exercise combinations, intensity, recuperation, muscular amplification during workloads and other sensitive parameters.

Every weight-lifting schedule must force your body to flow superfluous anabolic hormones like testosterone and HGH, which your body produces. Combine with CNS-friendly (Central Nervous System) recuperation periods, and rejoice fantastic gains in shorter periods.

Most often, the effects of vitamins and vitamin deficiencies are spread over a period of time. If your body isn?t getting sufficient amounts of a particular vitamin, it may take weeks, months or even years of low levels before the effects are evident. And when you start a vitamin regimen, it may take a significant period of time for your body to begin exhibiting the effects of having sufficient levels.

Vitamin K ? otherwise known as potassium ? is commonly associated with leg cramps. If a Vitamin K deficiency is the cause of your leg cramps, it?s likely that adding the vitamin to your daily routine can give you ease in a relatively short period of time.

One of the bigger (but less commonly known) reasons for Vitamin K in the human body has to do with blood clotting. This vitamin allows blood to coagulate so that it forms clots naturally. This makes it important for anyone taking medications to thin the blood to carefully monitor the amount of Vitamin K they add to their body. If you?re taking an anti-coagulant drug, talk to your doctor before adding any vitamin to your daily routine or changing your diet ? especially if those changes involve Vitamin K supplements or foods rich in Vitamin K.

One of the biggest myths about Vitamin K is that bananas are rich in Vitamin K and can be used instead of Vitamin K supplements. In fact, bananas are not a particularly good source of Vitamin K. For example, a half-cup of broccoli contains 200 times the amount of Vitamin K in a banana. Green vegetables are among the highest in Vitamin K content, with kale, turnip greens, broccoli and spinach heading the list. Cabbage, green beans and parsley are also included on the list of foods that are high in Vitamin K.

While the green foods are a good source of Vitamin K, they?re not the only source. You?ll also find that strawberries are a moderately high source of Vitamin K, as are dill pickles.

Not all the Vitamin K needed by the body is consumed. In fact, this is one of the few vitamins that the body actually helps manufacture. Babies don?t have much Vitamin K present in their bodies when they?re first born, therefore an infant?s blood may not clot as it should. To combat that, many hospitals give a shot of Vitamin K to babies soon after birth to start the body?s natural processing of this important vitamin.

Things do not change; we change. ?Henry David Thoreau

The following article is a chapter from my new book, The Da Vinci Fitness Code.

Professor Stanley Plagenhoef, one of my greatest mentors, introduced me to the Fibonacci number series in the early 1980's. He encouraged me to think of those numbers in the ideal relationship of health and fitness. I took his advice and bought books that spoke of the Fibonacci numbers, and the link between those numbers and The Golden Mean Ratio.

The first and best book I ever bought is titled, The Curves of Life, written by Theodore Andrea Cook, ISBN # 0-486-23701. The publisher is Dover Publications in New York.

Interestingly, this publication mentions on its title page, that the book includes special relation to The Manuscripts of LEONARDO DA VINCI. I learned many details from this insightful; brain penetrating book (and others I later read).

Some I will reword from memory. Leonardo said: ?you cannot be a good master, unless you have a universal power of representing by your art, all the varieties of the forms in Nature.

. . . . Do you not see how many and how varied are the actions performed by men alone ? how many kinds of animals there are, of trees and plants and flowers ? how many kinds of springs, rivers, buildings and cities, of instruments fitted for man's use, of costumes, ornaments and arts?

All these things should be rendered with equal facility and brace by anyone deserving the name of a good painter?.

What finally became clear to me was how all the factors Leonardo declared are connected in nature, propose, and carefully worked-out precise proportions, and shapes.

Generally, the shapes are a series o that are the Fibonacci Numbers, which can eventually take compared to the shapes of spirals, and curves.

Spiral shapes and curves are visible, in the night skies of our Universe. In the shapes of our Galaxy, and the Milky Way, as well as in the structure of clouds. On earth the shapes, curves, and proportions and the numbers agreed to these properties are ?The Formula for Growth.?

These shapes take the form of many aspects of Nature, prevailing in the Galaxy, on land in the curves of the ocean waves and sea shells, to the flowers and the trees and in the proportion and beauty of the legendary paintings, sculptures, and achievements of the great architects, such as Frank Lloyd Wright.

Because this is a book matched to excellence in fitness training, I must focus on examining fitness as it is about the human body.

When involved in learning the specific ways that the Golden Ratio and the Fibonacci Numbers, represent a part in all aspects of our daily lives, I propose that you use a computer to explore the World Wide Web.

All you need to do is type in either, ?The Golden Mean Ratio,? or ?The Fibonacci Numbers,? and you will be presented with thousands of pages of outstanding, original research choices. You will be amazed!

As you will discover, the Golden Mean Ratio and the Fibonacci Numbers clearly connect to the shape and proportions of the human body. Nature is also guiding us in our physical development.

You are presumably aware of the drawing by Leonardo Da Vinci of ?the Vitruvian Man.? This drawing outlines the ideal proportions, size, shape, and symmetry of the ideal human body. Some of us inherit ? genetically ? that shape. Many of us do not.

Nature is not continually perfect.

It became clear to me that the Fibonacci numbers and by continuation, the golden Mean Ratio, could have value when shifted to a legitimate total fitness protocol, as well as physical therapy, work conditioning, and bodybuilding protocols.

Apparently, the numbers, known as the Fibonacci numbers, were, first, discussed by an Italian mathematician of the thirteenth century, Leonardo Da Pisa.

The numbers, interpreted again, and it became apparent that certain ratios, and formula principles of these numbers, about growth, symmetry, proportion, and beauty appeared virtually everywhere.

The numbers verified to refer to a specific ratio, often discussed as The Golden Mean Ratio. A ratio used by Master artists, sculptors, and architects, to create their visions, in perfect balance and harmony.

Beginning in the outer cosmos, where spiral shapes prevail in great abundance, and the relationship of the planets distance from each other, is in a Fibonacci balance and Golden Mean Ratio.

Apparently, the architect-Source of the unified universe, formulated these proportions before anyone else did.

On earth, the proportions of the Fibonacci numbers, compose life forms, such as the human body. The Golden Mean Ratio aligns with the representations of the human body (and many other creations) by the great artists, such as Leonardo Da Vinci.

The spiral formations, produced within the Golden Mean Ratio are the same as the ratios of the Fibonacci numbers are to each other.

The growth and beauty of these spiral proportions appear on earth in the forms of flowers, branches and leaves on trees, the curves of ocean waves, the shape and proportions of animals.

In humans, they emerge as the length of the torso to the lower body. The size, and shape of all body segments and their relationship to each other, and to the body as a whole.

This illustrates in the famous drawing of Leonardo, called, ?The Vetruvian Man.? It interprets the ratios just mentioned, and shows patterns how the body is sectioned, illustrated as balanced, and agreeing with each other.

One interesting sidelight to thinking of the relationships of certain shapes and the inherent superiority of their use on planet earth is that the shape of the Nautilus Sea Shell.

It highlight's for instance as the essence of a superior, proportionate shape. From my point of view, the invention of Nautilus Exercise Equipment, in 1970, marked a major breakthrough in the evolution of fitness training.

It is interesting to me that Arthur Jones (the architect of Nautilus) chose the name Nautilus for his fitness equipment.

The major component of his invention is an apparatus called ?the cam,? which to him looked as the shape of a Nautilus Sea Shell. Thus, the name Nautilus was given to the advanced, High-Tech equipment.

It is possible that using a perfectly shaped device, in exercise equipment, is what produces the surprising improvements of those who used Nautilus. I believe so!

Although professionally involved in the health field for 25 years, before 1980, I never heard of the Fibonacci numbers or the Golden Mean Ration.

Generally, during those years, I carried out in my exercise programs, as I told to clients. Bear in mind that many research programs I developed guided much of my exercise knowledge.

Therefore, in one sense, these programs were not the same as other ?experts? recommended.

During the middle 1980's, I started to use the Fibonacci numbers in various fitness protocols. I did not explicitly explain to my patients why I was recommending various number systems, for their programs.

Like most fitness clients, they were not versed in the procedures used in the typical fitness programs. All they expected was the best results possible.

I held in reserve, all the workout cards of those I adequately worked with, and eventually, the cards numbered in the thousands. Unfortunately, those cards were destroyed a few years ago, in a basement flood in a house I owned in New England.

Since all effects, of fitness training base in the initial, baseline fitness levels, I was lucky to develop the ?Units of Muscular Contraction formula.?

This consistent approach, as mentioned in this book, can separate real results, from imagined results. I suggest you use it as the definitive appraisal tool to measure improvement.

Without fail, everyone greatly improved using the Fibonacci numbers. Again, correctly measured using the Units of Muscular Contraction system and by comparing the past and present day bodyweight, and the muscle to fat ratio.

Until recently, I have not publicly discussed using specific numbers, compared to harmony, proportion, and beauty, growth, combined with strength. flexibility, muscle endurance, and cardio-endurance, incorporated in one workout.

This book is an effort to help you simplify your fitness quest by introducing you to the ease of using the same power that Nature uses to create the proportionate health of the Universe.

This Universal power is in the Fibonacci Numbers.

Respiratory Monitoring Methods

There are two groups of methods of respiratory monitoring: direct and indirect. During direct respiratory monitoring the signals are recorded with various Spirometers. Spirometers measure direct in and out air flow. Indirect methods include measuring of body volume variation, pletismography. Each method has its own benefits and failings. Direct measurement is more accurate, but this disrupts normal breath. Pletismography is very accurate but this method requires patients mobilization. Other methods require frequent calibrations etc. Those methods are more suitable for ambulatory monitoring.

But how to monitor respiration when patient is doing exercises, when he is moving and requires more oxygen where direct implements disrupt normal breath. In such cases getting respiratory information is real challenge. It is known that breath has influence in cardiogram. During one respiratory cycle the heart axis is moving and this affects ECG morphology. There are few signal processing algorithms (such as QRS Area calculating method, Vector Cardiogram angle rotation or event heart rate variation) where breath signals are calculated from ECG. But of course during exercises heart rate isn?t permanent and breath is dynamical this is why classical methods doesn?t give very good results. Better results can be reached by combining different processing algorithms or searching for new ones.

Mesothelioma Diagnosis Support

Similar to that of other cancers, mesothelioma diagnosis is often a painful experience. Not only the patients but also their loved ones go through tremendous turmoil in their lives. This makes it all the more important for mesothelioma patients to get as much support as possible.

Diagnosis of mesothelioma does not mean the end of the world for the affected or their near and dear ones. Today there are substantial resources that enable individuals and their families to cope with this dreadful disease. The first and foremost task in the process calls for the maintenance of an open line of communication between the patients and their physicians. Such proactive communication will enable questions such as the treatment procedure, available choices and other impending issues to be sorted out. Although most physicians usually have very limited time to spend with one single patient during appointments, it makes sense to address these concerns as and when they occur, and resolve them at the earliest possible time. This will help save on invaluable time and speed up the treatment process.

The diagnosis of mesothelioma can be done through various tests like x-rays and CT scans. However, the most accurate test that helps determine mesothelioma is the tissue biopsy. Once the disease is diagnosed, a group of specialist doctors undertake further special examination and determine the course of treatment. The treatment could include surgery, chemotherapy, clinical trials, or the latest techniques like photodynamic therapy, immunotherapy, or gene therapy.

There are several other activities also that help patients cope with this deadly disease. Experts point to the fact that mesothelioma can be tackled if patients include simple things in their daily lives. These include following a healthy and well-balanced diet, learning relaxation techniques, and regular exercising. Additionally, it would really help if you join a cancer support group. A support group will help you to share your thoughts with others and make you feel a lot better.

Qigong Standing Meditation

Here?s a wonderful ~ simple & powerful ~ Taoist meditation practice, which can be done either outside (in a beautiful natural setting is best!), or indoors. It?s similar in many ways to Buddhist Shamata sitting meditation practice, but ~ and hence the name! ~ you?re standing. (So, for one, it?s less likely that you?ll fall asleep ? J)

Begin by standing with your feet parallel and about shoulder-width apart. Take a couple of deep long breaths, saying ?aaah? (either out loud or to yourself) with the exhales. Let go of any tension you find in your shoulders, neck or face ~ simply let it ?melt? away, with the exhale ? as though that tension were a frozen river, being touched now by a warm sun, and flowing downward, like the gentle cascade of a waterfall, forming pools at your feet. Feel your energy, your awareness, settling into your feet & legs & hips & belly, connecting you strongly to the earth. Bend your knees just slightly ~ just enough to feel a softness at the backs of your knees.

Let your arms hang down next to your sides, so that your thumbs are gently touching your outer thighs (which means the backs of your hands will be facing forward). Separate and extend your fingers downward, so that they?re straight without being rigid, and so there?s space between each pair of fingers (as though you had webbed fingers). Now, float your hands directly forward, three or four inches, so they?re hovering now just in front of (but still to the sides) of your thighs. This should create a feeling of hollowness in your armpits. Let your elbows be bent just enough to create a feeling of softness in them.

Now choose a gazing point, eight or ten feet in front of you. Rest your eyes very softly on that point (or area). (The meditation Masters of the past have discovered that there?s a connection between the movement of our eyes, and the movement of thoughts in our mind ? So making the eyes still is a wonderful way to calm the mind.) Try to let that spot you?re looking at come into your eyes, instead of reaching out (with the energy of your eyes) to ?grab? it. In other words, let your eyes become receptive, instead of active ? Relax your jaw, so that there?s space between your upper & lower teeth, even though your lips are gently closed.

So now that you?re in the Qigong Standing Meditation position, stay here, for awhile. Once you?ve arranged yourself in this way, there?s nothing much to ?do.? Simply notice what?s it?s like being here, in this position.

If you?re new to the practice, hold the position for a couple of minutes. You can make small adjustments to it, as this feels necessary for your comfort, but the idea is to do as little moving around as possible. Once you?ve got the correct alignment of the pose, holding it in a fairly ?motionless? way will support internal movements of qi/life-force which will be very pleasant, and healing. As you continue this practice ~ over weeks or months or years ~ you?ll be able to hold the position for longer periods of time (30 minutes, a hour). But in the beginning, a couple minutes is wonderful!

When We Were Kids

When I was a kid I used to be able to jump like that. When I was a kid I used to be able to tumble like that. How often have you heard these comments? Probably quiet often if you are a coach or trainer. I hear these comments daily. I find them comical, as they are usually lame excuses for laziness and fear. You were better at dong these things as a kid because you done them and you weren?t afraid. You were not embarrassed or worried about feeling stupid in front of others. Take my word having fun and playing games even as an adult will go along way in enhancing your physical as well as mental well-being.

Last week my four-year-old son and I ventured off for a hike in the jungle (wooded area behind our house). We were searching for The Secret Kid?s Place. While on our journey we had to conquer numerous obstacles. In our first encounter we had to climb up a huge tree to escape the tigers. It was a close call, but we made it. Moments later we had to crawl underneath a fence then over a fence as we ventured further into the jungle. We had to walk across a tree that had fallen across the creek. My son found this very exciting, as there were crocodiles waiting to eat us below. As our journey continued we had to overcome challenges such as volcanoes (which we had to jump) and lions, which we had to out run. After a treacherous battle we reached our ultimate destination The Secret Kid?s Place. Once we reached this exotic land we sit down and had our PB&J sandwiches. ?Yep we made it dad? my son replied. Then he said ?this was a perfect day; think so?. I agreed this was a perfect day.

You see kids have something most adults lack imagination and the need for physically challenging stimuli. As we know these are qualities that allow members of the MaxCondition Family to constantly challenge and design new movements and thought processes. It is sad to say but most parents lack the physical qualities needed to play with their kids in the manner mentioned above. In my opinion one of the key qualities in developing real fitness is stepping out of the box and not worrying about what everyone else is doing.

John of God Miracle Man Article

THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE from around the world diagnosed as terminal or incurable by modern medicine travel thousands of miles each month, enduring long international flights and exhausting bus rides to Abadiania. A small town in the mountains of central Brazil. They come to see miracle healer, Joao Teixeira de Faria, the man the people of Brazil have affectionately titled, Joao de Deus or John of God.

Joao is a simple man of humble beginnings who devotes three days of every week to healing his fellow man without payment for his services.

As a young boy, Joao experienced blackout spells. On awakening he learned he had performed miraculous healings. Religious leaders, the medical field, the police and those in power threatened by Joaos abilities had him beaten, thrown in jail then cast out of town. This was a pattern that went on for years. Even with that, Joao still treated those who persecuted him when their own incurable illness arose. Joao frequently states, it is not me who cures, God is the healer, I am simply the vessel. Joao is known as an unconscious medium; he never recalls any of the healings he's performed.

Not everything can be explained scientifically or rationally as there are over 35 Healing Spirit Guides including King Solomon and Saint Ignatius that use Joao as their instrument, completely taking over his body and mind. Guided by these Spirits, Joao was told to buy a specific piece of land in Abadiania and build a healing sanctuary on it. Joao named it the Casa de Dom Inacio, after his Patron and Master Guide, Saint Ignatius.

Since he began 44 years ago, Joao has treated and healed millions of people. While incorporated by the Healing Spirits, Joao will see all who come to him without stopping to rest. The poor and the famous alike stand in line, up to thousands a day. They come to witness miracles and hope to receive one of their own. For example actress Shirley Maclaine who was told by Western Medicine she would never dance again. That was until Joao removed a tumor from her stomach.

Joao is acclaimed to be the most powerful spiritual medium of our time and the greatest healer since our beloved Jesus the Christ. From curing cancer, AIDS, tumors, heart conditions, addictions, helping the lame to walk and the blind to see, Joao treats every form of illness imaginable. Many people report powerful outcomes that can be measured; X-rays before and after for example. The proof is a room at the Casa filled with thousands of discarded crutches, leg braces and wheelchairs.

The two kinds of surgeries performed through Joao are visible and invisible. Visible surgeries are done with forceps, a scapel or knife. Patients experience minimal pain, bleeding or anxiety during surgery. There are no tranquilizers, pain medication or antibiotics used before, during or after surgery, and no case of infection has ever occurred throughout Joao's many years of work. Invisible surgery is performed while meditating in what is known as the Current room at the Casa. Healing Spirits energetically bring about miraculous corrections on mental, emotional, physical and spiritual levels. Healing can be immediate, others recover over time, and some may require additional visits.

Thousands of written testimonies and personal letters of gratitude fill the Casa office along with stacks of newspaper articles. Reports from clergymen, scientists and doctors worldwide support claims of Joao's work.

Joao de Deus and his Casa de Dom Inacio Healing Sanctuary give us the opportunity to witness and experience God's love and deepen our connection with him. A place where our hope turns into faith, and faith into certainty. For the thousands who travel to Joao each month from around the world, it is a spritual awakening, a spiritual transformation, and the beginning of the end to their illness, on many levels.

Natural Alternatives to Treat Acne

Acne can be caused in teenagers just from the hormonal aspect of being a teen and genetics (that stinks!)

Many products on the market just don't work. That?s because my son tried some of them. Here are some natural remedies you can try with your acne regimen or alone if you don?t have an acne regimen.

To clean your face:

You can use oatmeal and add water. Rub this on your face and let it sit for 15 minutes. Oatmeal is a natural astringent that dries the skin.

Rinse off with water. Get a spray bottle or dab your face with white vinegar or apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar from the health food store has all the enzymes and minerals your face may need. Also the vinegar helps get your skin back to its natural pH. Don?t worry if it smells vinegary, it will soon fade.

Then if you want to, you can dab some hydrogen peroxide afterwards. By scratching pimples you can cause an infection so the hydrogen peroxide helps. You can use hydrogen peroxide for any pimples that appear open and can get infected.

And stop touching your hair and face during the day! Do this treatment at least 2 x a day.

Here are other treatments you can try.

You can wash your face with a soap like Aveeno. If you use Aveeno, use the pump brand as soap can sit around and start developing bacteria. You can use a cotton ball to clean the oil from the skin with a cooling astringent. You can buy an astringent or use the vinegar.

Using Neosporin - Dad a little Neosporin on pimples and blemishes. The antibiotic helps clear up acne.

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia. Using this as a facial mask helps dry up the excess oils from your face, and dabbing it on pimples to reduce redness and to speed up healing.

Using ReaLemon. Rub the ReaLemon lemon juice over blackheads before going to bed. In the morning, wash of the juice with cool water. Repeat this for several nights and you should see a big improvement in the skin. Also dab ReaLemon on any blemish a few times during the day when you have a chance.

When you break out in pimples, mix 1 tsp of Corn Starch with 1 tsp of ReaLemon lemon juice to make a paste. Apply to the affected areas and then let dry. This treatment eliminates the redness and helps pimples dry up faster.

Remember, always consult your doctor before using any of the above treatments.

Energy Enhancement and Psychology

Here is an example of an interview I gave before our last course which we give both in Spain on the Costa Brava and in Rosario in Argentina.

I was meeting a nice girl of 28 this morning here at our center in Rosario. She is a Psychologist but has fallen out of love with Psychology because although it explains things intellectually it gives no TECHNIQUES apart from talking to change anything internally, particularly in herself. You can see how effective Psychology is by looking at Woody Allen.

I connected with her base chakra and her inner child showed me all her chakras and blockages one by one. A very interesting experience. First the Base chakra, one fear and security blockage which I removed very quickly. Then the second, a pain filled relationship blockage which I also removed. Then all the chakras solar plexus, heart etc, feeling the general dirtiness of the psychic body usually cleaned with The Grounding of Negative Energies but no major blockages.

Then the head, two blockages, one a person who had just died, very deep and negative. I removed the first blockage but the other one was more difficult and stayed with me, absorbed by my psychic body, for a day before I sent it on.

She felt the movement of energy blockages in the head and in the body as my mind and energy was working on her and told me that she normally got a lot of headaches. She was interested in my exposition of Energy Enhancement as all the while I was working on these blockages I was also talking to her.

Such openings show an educated psychic body, one with talent. Not everyone who comes to the Guru has similar experiences. Some also get more. She and I felt that with training she also might be able to help her clients in a similar way. So, she is coming back tomorrow to try out the process, to get her first Initiation in Energy Enhancement.

The first day Satchi taught me how to sit. By moving the position of my posture slightly I could feel the flow of energy from the center of the earth into the center of the universe. Satchi explained that what I was feeling was Kundalini Energy. If I followed it, he said, It would lead me to Enlightenment. From the testimonial of Energy Enhancement Student Carla, Jan 2004

Siva Samhit?, iii, 10-19: Now I shall tell you how easily to attain success in Yoga, by knowing which the Yogis never fail in the practice of Yoga. Only the knowledge imparted by a Competent Teacher through his lips is powerful and useful; otherwise it becomes fruitless, weak and very painful.

And this is why - by coming into the Buddhafield of Energy surrounding Energy Enhancement Satchidanand obtained through many years of meditation with many enlightened masters, you obtain Shaktipat- an infusion of energy to help you get into a permanent state of meditation.

Swami Satchidanand is Director of Energy Enhancement Synthesis of Light which teaches 28 ancient and effective techniques to enable you to achieve control of your mind, an enhanced IQ, control over all your negative emotions, anger, fear, depression on the path of the ultimate Samadhi and enlightenment itself.

Magnifying Mirror

I recently bought a magnifying mirror . . . a big, lighted magnifying mirror that makes it impossible for me to ignore all my face's imperfections. The unreasonable clerk who sold me the mirror wouldn?t let me return it. She said not liking what I saw in it wasn?t reason enough to get my money back.

Mirrors like this one should be illegal. It enlarges objects seven times their natural size. The thing is a health hazard. When I looked into it, I screamed in horror, then hyperventilated, passed out, and hit my head on the bathroom sink. I needed CPR to be resuscitated, and I think some of my brains might have been flushed down the toilet. I?m not sure I?ll ever recover from discovering that my cheeks have pleats. (gasp!) The whole nasty experience plunged me into a state of third-degree, age-related depression.

All this time, I?ve been living in that lovely la-la-land of denial. I had fooled myself into believing that I still looked twenty-nine. Mother Nature played a cruel joke on me. Time to wake up and smell the extra-strength age spot remover. Reality hit me right between my puffy, sagging eyelids. Ouch! That smarts.

My laugh lines are no laughing matter, now that they?re buried deep within my saggy cheeks. The only advantage is that I can finally say I have cleavage, even if it IS on my face. The black bags under my eyes are bigger than my feet. They?re helping to save the forests, though. I carry groceries in them, rather than using the paper sacks at the grocery store.

I look like a puckered pile of flab and wrinkles with whiskers. When my husband calls me ?pet,? it?s because my drooping jowls make me look like Cousin Delmont?s old coon dog Otis, and my flabby neck jiggles like a Tom turkey?s. My cheeks sag lower each day, like melting blobs of raspberry ripple ice cream. I?m afraid I?ll awake some morning to discover that my face has slid down around my waist.

The dermatologist made my day when he called the dark patches on my cheeks ?old age barnacles. I must look like a sunken ship. I asked him if plaster of paris might help, but instead he suggested that I have my face ?resurfaced.? So now I?m a well-traveled, worn out road? I must admit that my face does sort of look like a truck ran over it.

Wrinkles aren't the only revolting development that?s got me down. It?s bad enough that I?ve turned into grandma Moses, but I'm looking a lot like Grandpa Walton too. I've sprouted a beard and mustache, and my whole face is lower than it used to be. Yesterday, my husband called me ?floppy cheeks, and I don?t think he meant it as a term of endearment. I no longer count gravity among my friends. It?s pulling everything southward, and parts that once were perky are now in danger of being stepped on and often get road rash from dragging on the pavement.

I?ve placed my youth on the endangered species list. It?s evaporating faster than spit on a hot griddle. Instead of aging like a fine wine, I'm afraid I'm more like moldy cheese or curdled 2% milk. As my six-year-old grandson says, ?I?m not happy about this.?

You can understand why I appreciate the Bible verse in Proverbs 11, which says, A kind hearted woman will gain respect. I'm relieved, because I know I can't get by on my good looks. I hope people find my heart more pleasing to behold than the rest of me.

I don?t even know Grace, and I don?t want to grow old with her, but I?ve found at least two things for which old timers can be thankful:

1) For those who love and obey Him, God does not examine faults with a magnifying glass. If He did, it would be a sight even more grotesque than the one staring back at me from my mirror. Instead, God is willing to remove each soul's blemishes and forget them forever. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. (Psalm 103:12)

2) Secondly, nobody is ever too old to be used by God. No matter what my age, or how many thousands of wrinkles and gray hairs I have, there is always something good I can do. God has plans for each of us. Jeremiah 29:11 says: ?I know the plans I have for you, ?declares the Lord, . . . to give you hope and a future.? We always have a place in God's scheme of things, even if one foot is in the rest home. We can't outgrow our usefulness and no one?s ever too old to have hopes and dreams or to accomplish some pretty nifty things with God's help. I heard of one hip grandma who rode a motorcycle on her ninetieth birthday. That sure beats staring at the wall from a rocking chair in a puddle of drool. God doesn't just use young and beautiful people.

In fact, I would guess that He can probably more often use older folks who have gained experience and learned the lessons that come only from making mistakes. How cool is it that He can work through anyone, wrinkles, age spots, and all? He'll use anybody, as long as they meet two requirements: A: they are willing, and B: they're still breathing.

That includes you. So open those wrinkled, baggy eyelids of yours and take a gander at the world around you. Forget your age. You will always be younger than someone somewhere. If you look, you'll see loads of things you can do. Get your pruney face and your varicose veins out there and get busy!

And by the way, if you have a magnifying mirror, toss it into the dumpster or give it to a young person. We have better things than wrinkles to focus on.

Antioxidant Therapy and Disease

The process of oxidation takes place in the body as part of the body?s energy-producing metabolism. It provides the vast amounts of energy required to keep us alive, and it continues as long as we live. It is a very precise, ordered process, which calls for the presence of catalysts (such as enzymes) at various stages throughout, and it is designed to produce the maximum amount of energy for the cells without disturbing their balance and functions.

Free Radicals and Ageing

This process can generate by-products, in the form of highly reactive and destructive molecules, called free radicals. These molecules are dangerous because they are unstable. They carry a small electrical charge, and have a single unpaired electron, which makes them extremely volatile and liable to react with other atoms and molecules they contact. Even more free radicals are rapidly generated from these chain reactions.

Biological systems are designed in such a way that free radicals are part of their normal functioning. The body copes with oxidative stress by using its own antioxidant mechanisms based on certain enzymes, proteins, vitamins and minerals, described below. But if free radicals get out of hand, they can overtake this natural defence system and bring about the degeneration of body cells, which ultimately leads to ageing and degenerative disease.

Recent developments in the biochemical study of free radical action have provided a more unified understanding of degenerative processes. It is now possible for researchers to make sense of the causation of a variety of pathological conditions, including cancer, heart disease, atherosclerosis, arthritis, Alzheimer's and other diseases of old age, and to work towards counteracting and preventing these conditions.

Free radicals operate by attacking molecules of protein in the body and causing them to become cross-linked. Cross-linkage degrades the molecules of cells and tissues so that they harden and lose their elasticity. This happens both internally, resulting in hardening of the arteries and the degeneration of brain tissue, and also externally, producing wrinkling of the skin. Because proteins are the basic building matter of all the types of cells and tissue, this attack affects all protein functions, including cell building and repair, hormone and enzyme production, muscular and vascular tissue, and the immune system. The nucleic acids DNA and RNA, which carry the genetic messages of the cells, are also affected.

Causes of Increased Free Radical Production

To an extent, free radicals are a natural result of body processes. Especially in today's world, however, the production of free radicals is likely to be accelerated by many outside influences:

Pollution, Pesticides, Radiation, Solvents.
Air conditioners, Aerosol sprays, Drycleaners.
Car exhaust fumes.
Physical or emotional stress or trauma.
Cigarette smoke, Excessive alcohol intake.
Illness, Infection.
Faulty protein digestion.
Spoiled or tainted foods, Rancid, heated and hydrogenated fats.
Chemicals in food.
Ozone, Ultra-violet rays.

Add to this the fact that humans eat fewer natural foods (especially raw foods rich in protective elements), and we can see why our health is becoming compromised.

The Benefits of Antioxidant Elements

Ideally, the body protects itself with the help of naturally occurring elements, which it derives directly from the diet, or produces using dietary sources. The first of these to be discovered are often called the First Generation Antioxidants.

Enzymes: Superoxide dismutase (SOD), Glutathione peroxidase, Catalase.
Vitamins: Vitamins A, C, and E.
Minerals: Zinc, Selenium.
Amino Acids: Arginine, Cysteine, Glutamine, Taurine.

The antioxidant enzymes are the first line of defence. But the body needs adequate supplies of other nutrients before enzymes can be effective. Superoxide dismutase requires zinc, manganese and copper, and glutathione peroxidase requires selenium and vitamin E - which, as we know, operate synergistically. If these nutrients are not available in sufficient quantity, the scavenging activity of the enzymes is reduced.

The Second Generation Antioxidants

As research into antioxidants developed, a ?second generation? of more powerful free radical fighters emerged: the Carotenoids (associated with Vitamin A) and the Bioflavonoids (which enhance the action of Vitamin C). These were far more powerful in their action than Vitamins, and remained longer in the body, increasing their effectiveness even further.

Carotenoids (over 600): Astaxanthin, Lycopene.
Bioflavonoids (over 800): Rutin, Hesperidin, Quercetin, Anthocynosides, Catechins.

If a diet contains enough fruit and vegetables, bioflavonoids should not be lacking, but today's dietary habits and cultivation methods make for deficiency.

Some Notes About Antioxidant Herbs and Health Foods

Herbs: Bilberry, Echinacea, Evening Primrose, Garlic, Ginger, Ginkgo Biloba, Hawthorn Berry, Milk Thistle, Rosemary, Wild Cabbage.
Health foods: Fresh Fruits and Vegetables, Grape Seed Extract, Green Tea, Pollen, Propolis, Pine Bark Extract.

Tomatoes are the best source of the carotenoid Lycopene, the pigment that gives tomatoes and pink fruits their colour. Studies have proved that lycopene is far better absorbed from cooked tomato products than from raw tomatoes. Lycopene has been shown to have beneficial effects on prostate cancer.

Bilberry, in addition to vitamins A and C, has high levels of anthocynosides. These bioflavonoids fortify blood vessel walls, improving blood flow to the vessels that keep eyes healthy, and they help maintain good circulation throughout the body. Bilberry has a reputation for improving night vision and preventing and treating macular degeneration and cataracts.

Green Tea contains bioflavonoids called catechins. These antioxidants may selectively inhibit the growth of cancer. Positive results have been obtained from studies of green tea, although it appears black tea cannot be shown to have the same effects.

Fresh Berry Fruits contain bioflavonoids, especially the dark berries such as noni, goji berries, blueberries, blackberries and pomegranate.

Grape Seed and Pine Bark Extracts both contain proanthocyanidin bioflavonoids. The pycnogenol and catechins present in pine bark extract are said to be extremely effective, exerting a stabilising effect on collagen and cellular membranes of all kinds. Grape seed extract contains a very high level of proanthocyanidins.

A stroke, also known as a CVA (cerebrovascular accident), is a life-threatening event in which the brain?s oxygen supply has been cut off causing problems with such functions as speech, sensation, behavior, memory, and thought processes. A stroke may also result in paralysis, coma, and even death.

Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States and the second leading cause of neurological disability after Alzheimer?s disease. The incidence of stroke has slowly declined over the last 30 years partly due to increased awareness of risk factors and improvement in prophylactic measures and better surveillance of those individuals at increased risk.

Strokes occur when an artery to the brain becomes either blocked by a blood clot (thrombotic stroke) or when an artery bursts due to an aneurysm (hemorrhagic stroke). Brain tissue deprived of oxygen dies within a few minutes causing part of the body controlled by that portion of the brain affected to lose function.

Symptoms of a stroke can include sudden numbness and weakness in the face, arm, and leg; usually on one side of the body. Other signs and symptoms that can be associated with a stroke can include difficulty talking (getting words out), slurred speech, blurred or complete loss of vision, usually in one eye, unexplained dizziness, or a sudden severe headache.

Approximately 10 per cent of strokes are preceded by TIAs (transient ischemic attacks; also called mini-strokes). These TIAs can precede a major stroke days, weeks, or even months before a major stroke. They frequently last less than 5-10 minutes with symptoms similar to a stroke, but symptoms usually completely resolve. TIAs generally do not cause permanent damage or functional loss, but they are a warning sign indicating that something critical is looming. One should immediately visit their doctor or go to the emergency department for an evaluation because a stroke can be frequently prevented if the site of the problem is identified and proper medical care is instituted.

A stroke usually results in varying degrees of loss of sensation or function throughout the body determined by the portion of the brain that has been affected. Some stroke victims are unable to speak but everything else maybe normal. This is because the speech area of the brain has been damaged. Others may have right arm and leg weakness or complete paralysis because the damage of a stroke is usually limited to one side of the brain and each half of the brain controls the function of the opposite side of the body. So if a patient presents with left sided arm and leg weakness, we know that the stroke has occurred on the right side of the brain. An MRI or MRA scan can usually identify where the stroke has occurred. Most of the time, strokes are treated with medications to prevent further damage and lessen the chances of developing additional strokes. Sometimes a surgical intervention is required depending on the type and location of the vessel blockage.

You can greatly reduce your risk of a stroke by eating a healthy low fat diet, keeping your blood pressure low, exercising, keeping your weight down, not smoking, and by getting regular checkups and measurements of your cholesterol levels. Elevated homocysteine levels have also been associated with the incidence of stroke. I also recommend that it is a good idea to take a baby aspirin (81 mg) daily if you are past the age of 50 or sooner if you have multiple risk factors for stroke. Make sure that you check with your doctor first before doing this as you should not be taking aspirin if you have a bleeding disorder or a history of peptic ulcer disease.

Treatment of stroke initially involves using thrombolytic (clot breaking) medication and measures to prevent further brain damage or another stroke. It is paramount in getting patients who have had a stroke to reduce their risk factors such as getting them to quit smoking, bringing their blood pressure under control, and treating their lipids (cholesterol) if those are elevated. Physical therapy and occupational therapy are important and often required in the management and rehabilitation of patients after a stroke in an attempt to improve and restore motor function. The goal of therapy is to enable the patient to gain enough strength and motor function to be able to carry out their activities of daily living. Speech therapy may also be important to those patients suffering from speech difficulties.

The most important points to take from this article are to be aware of the seriousness of the problem, the signs and symptoms of a stroke or an impending stroke, and to modify your lifestyle to prevent a stroke from occurring.

Maximize Results with a Perfect Workout

When it comes to exercise, routine is your enemy. Your body should constantly be forced to guess what crazy new workouts you decide to put yourself through. This practice inhibits your muscles and physiological systems from gradually adapting to the demands you place on them. While some training programs address this adaptation by completely changing the workout program's set, rep, and exercise routine every 4-8 weeks, I'd like to explain a less common idea: changing the daily intensity. For the purposes of this article, I will be incorporating three different intensities - high, medium, and low. With a routine like this, you won't have to worry about switching your workout mode every few weeks, as long as you constantly plug and play new exercises.

Think of your body as a car's engine. Low intensity would involve idling at a stoplight. Your primary fuel is fat, and your actual caloric expenditure is low. There is still a good amount of blood flow to exercising muscles, but the actual cardiovascular stress and fiber tearing in the muscle is minimal. You are not breathing hard, conversation with your fellow gym-goers is fairly non-stressful, and muscles really don't burn all that much. Such an intensity is great for a recovery workout, or for a strength/power workout with long rests between sets. You could potentially go for several hours at this intensity and still be able to do another workout the next day.

You're cruising down the highway when in medium-intensity mode. Breathing and heart rate become a bit more rapid, you can feel a burn in the working muscles, and the primary fuel is a mixture of fat and carbohydrate. Mental focus is typically a little higher than low-intensity mode, and the workout itself is challenging, but not daunting. You can usually exercise the next day, but typically want to avoid stressign the same muscle groups.

In high-intensity mode, you are working at a 100%, all-out effort. Muscles are constantly burning, breathing and heart rate are very high, carbohydrate is the main fuel source, and caloric expenditure is through the roof (as is your post-workout metabolism). The entire body is tired after this type of workout and you generally need about 24 hours of rest of very easy work afterwards. Many times, it can be difficult to mentally force yourself to *begin* one of these kind of workouts, although once you launch into and the adrenaline kicks in, energy levels naturally rise.

The key to the sample training program outlined below that the low, medium and high intensities are stacked so that your body optimally responds and optimally recovers from each workout. So here is a sample daily-intensity based workout for a fairly frequent 6 day work-out routine.

Day 1 (i.e. Monday): high-intensity cardio intervals (shorter, i.e. 20 minutes) with high-intensity full body resistance training (longer, i.e. 45 minutes), incorporating back-to-back sets, challenging weights, difficult training scenarios, and short rest periods.

Day 2: low-intensity cardio, long and steady (i.e. 45 minutes+), with no lifting. Good day for an outdoor workout, like a hike or easy bike ride.

Day 3: high-intensity cardio intervals with medium-intensity full body lift, incorporating primarily body weight training. Great day to experiment and try new exercises and/or group exercise classes.

Day 4: low-intensity cardio, long and steady (i.e. 45 minutes+), with no lifting.

Day 5: medium-intensity cardio (shorter, i.e. 20 minutes) with low-intensity lifting (longer, i.e. 45 minutes),. For the lifting, incorporate heavier weights with longer rest periods, and focus on slow and controlled movements with perfect form and little to no ballistic activity.

Day 6: high-intensity cardio (longer, i.e. 45 minutes) with high-intensity full body resistance training (shorter, i.e. 20 minutes). Great day to try the Weekly Trainer Challenge, plus some extra cardio.

Day 7: active rest. Does not equal couch+bon-bons. Get up and move around, but just don't stress your body too much.

There you have it. This type of exercise routine allows for sufficient recovery after the high-intensitiy periods, while still allowing for maximum caloric burning and efficient workouts. There are many different ways you could approach such a routine (in terms of exercises, specific cardio intervals, etc.). Just let me know if I can help you put a training plan together...you can e-mail me at elite@pacificfit.net.

What Should We Do To Achieve Optimal Health

If you really want to achieve optimal health, you have got to get a move on, at least a couple of times per week. There is little argument in the scientific community regarding exercise complementary role to diet in the prevention of numerous diseases and chronic conditions. Simple walking on a regular basis can help prevent osteoporosis in some women, and some form of cardiovascular exercise helps to strengthen the heart muscle and many of your other muscles for the long haul ahead. Keeping active in the here and now helps ensure that you will be able to remain active when you are older.

How do diet and exercise work together to promote health? If you are exercising, but eating a high-fat diet, plaque can still develop in your arteries, and you are still at risk for numerous types of cancers. Conversely, if you take the step to cut your fat, you are still taking in a couple thousand calories per day. If your daily exercise consists of walking from the car into the office in the morning, you are not burning off too many of those calories. You may lose a few pounds, but you won't want to keep yourself on such a restrictive diet, and you may find yourself slipping. Eventually, you will probably gain all that weight back, losing your grip on better health. What's more, as we age, our metabolism slows, meaning that your body will be using even fewer of those calories if you don't do anything to work them off.

We know that not all of us are cut out for the health club scene and not all of us are gifted athletes. This matters very little, as there are many more physical activities in life than hitting the basketball court. For those who want to include exercise in their lifestyle but don't want to train for a triathlon, walking is a sensible alternative. A thirty-minute walk every day or a one-hour walk three or four times per week will cover about eight miles and, more important, improve muscle tone and burn up about 1,000 calories. Add a low-fat vegetarian diet to that, and you have got a start at a formidable plan to be healthy.

The only way you will stick with an exercise program is to find something that you like doing. If you like to jog every morning, by all means do it. But if you'd like something more low impact, you don't have to look very far to find it. Do you like to dance? Do you like to play tag with your children or take your dog on long walks around the neighborhood? Once you get into an enjoyable routine of exercise, it will be something that you look forward to on a daily basis. And weight loss won't be the only indication that your body is undergoing a change. You will look better, you'll feel better, and you will probably be able to handle the stresses of your day better. Exercise is not only healthful for the body, but it is also therapeutic for the mind.

Tailors Will Need to do Overtime!

You should check if there is enough space in your wardrobes. Why? Because you will need it! You will enjoy buying all the clothes you ever wished for. I'm thankful for this opportunity to thank her!! She has enabled me to deal with the problems that are in my every day life with a smile and serenity said Julie and her statement is representative for thousands of others!

How many people tried everything to lose weight? How many people are frustrated because the weight came back every time? Or worse, they even start eating more when they just think about going on a diet. That's over now! There is a solution for all those people running from one disillusionment to another. Here is the solution!

But, please allow me to introduce myself first. My name is Phil. I am from Belgium and I work in the field of personal improvement and spiritual growth. As a former EMT I have seen many overweight women and men. They all had serious health problems because of their overweight. All of them had tried already many diets, pills, tried to control their eating habits? but nothing really worked.

But some did it. They changed their weight and modified it to their dream level, others didn?t. And those were really desperate. But, there is a reason why one can lose weight with a diet, another one with pills, another one with exercise and another one with another technique. And, of course, there is a reason too why some people simply don?t become overweight. They eat just like you and their body stays in a beautiful shape. So, here?s the question: Why did diets for you never work? Why came the pounds back after the diet?

It can?t be because of the diet. It may have worked for others. But not for you. Why? Don?t be afraid, you are not abnormal? you are just different from other people. Everybody is different. What works for person A does not necessarily work for person B. That?s perfectly OK!

Here?s the good news: You can change your weight, too. You increased it so you can decrease it. You just need another approach. You are not condemned to live with a weight that does not make you feel happy about it. You can change it! Yes! And you know what? You deserve it!

The key is in your mind. Your subconscious mind holds the power to resolve the deep issues you may have with food and there is a unique and safe way to communicate with your subconscious mind: Hypnosis!

The University of Connecticut says about weight loss hypnosis: ?An analysis of five weight loss studies reported in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology in 1996 showed that the ??weight loss reported in the five studies indicates that hypnosis can more than double the effects? of traditional weight loss approaches?.

If you are overweight, that means any weight that you don?t want for yourself (regardless what other people say), then there is a purpose for this weight. There?s a reason for this weight in your subconscious mind. Nothing happens to you without a reason for this in your subconscious.

The reason for the weight may vary. Not everyone is overweight for the same reason. Of course, in a way you are overweight because you eat too much or the wrong things. But why do you do that? What purpose serves the weight in your subconscious mind? How can you find this out? ? Well it?s easier as you think.

Fastest Way to Burn Fat

Ever wonder how fitness models look so great in magazines? Well its not all smoke, mirrors and Adobe Photoshop editing.

Believe it or not, some photographers will flat out turn a fitness model away if she shows up to a photo shoot out of shape. It?s just too hard to sell images of flabby fitness models.

So how do models firm up before a shoot? There?s tons of ways to do this but the easiest way is to give yourself two weeks to shed five pounds.

That may not seem like a lot of weight to lose, but looking good is not so much about weight loss as it is about weight re-distribution.

In reality, shedding five pounds of flab could mean the difference between a 32-inch waist and a 28-inch waist. Using these five steps, you?ll drop that body jiggle in no time.

Step 1: Double up on your aerobics

Instead of exercising for 30 minutes on the treadmill, step it up to 60 minutes. You don?t need to walk, step or jog faster, only longer. Extending your workouts past 30 minutes gives your body more time to burn fat, as opposed to only burning carbohydrates for energy.

Added tip, don?t eat more because you exercise more. Lean bodies are nutritionally efficient bodies.

Step 2: Go to bed the same time every night before 11pm

When bodybuilders train for a show, you can bet on one thing for certain, they?re snoozing by 11pm every night. Going to bed consistently by 11am gives fat the one-two knockout.

Early sleep lowers the amount of cortisol levels in your blood. Higher than normal cortisol levels encourages fat storage. As an added boost, when you regulate your sleep, you levels of melatonin kick in like clockwork each night to not only enhance your sleep, but to actually burn fat better.

Step 3: Wake up 30 minutes earlier

OK, you have to get your double exercise time from somewhere, so it comes from your sleep time. Getting up earlier also helps you sleep better. With the added fatigue from exercising and going to sleep at a regular time, your dozing hours will be more restful and you probably won?t even notice those 30 minutes that you skimped on.

Step 4: Eat you last meal by 6:30pm

If you meet a successful fitness model, one thing you?re sure to encounter is that she has her eating habits down to a science. Closing down you kitchen a 6:30 has several weight loss benefits. First, by not eating for a full twelve hours each day, you give your stomach time to empty itself and allow you body to use excess fat for energy. Second, if your last meal is at 6:30pm and you crawl into bed by 11pm, your body won?t be so busy digesting food all night long- making your rest all the more peaceful.

Step 5: Eat more frequently, 6-8 times a day

Metabolism manipulation is the cornerstone of weight loss. Manipulate your meals and you manipulate your metabolism.

If you normally eat 3-5 meals a day, break those feasts in the 6-8 mini meals. Remember, do not add more food just split the meals in two. Regularly feeding your body keeps the body?s energy level at its optimum.

Moreover, you?ll have the energy you need to make it through an extended cardio session.

There you have it, fives steps to the slimmer you. And yes, it works like clockwork. Give yourself two weeks and watch the last bit of flab slip away. I dare you.

Are you a pro at yo-yo dieting? Let Naweko show you how to go from slob to sexy using the secret mind tools that even fitness models won?t tell you about. Get the real scoop on how to lose weight and keep it off at http://www.Noixia.com, home of ?Skinny Fat Chicks: Why We?re Still Not Getting This Dieting Thing? ISBN:0974912212.

Food Intolerance and Food Allergies

Food allergy or intolerance?

One out of 3 North Americans believe that they are allergic to certain foods, but fewer than 1 percent have genuine allergies. For most people food intolerance is the reason for this confusion between the two. The other 29 percent are usually just unable to tolerate certain foods, often because they lack an enzyme needed for proper digestion.

Although, some people are sensitive to lactose, a sugar found in milk, however, they can tolerate other dairy products like cheese, yogary and sourcream. This is an example of food sensitivity or intolerance, NOT an allergy to diary products. A person with an allergic reaction would have a reaction to most types of dairy, and usually the symptoms are worse, and longer lasting.

Sometimes children cannot tolerate gluten, found in wheat products, but will grow out or the intolerance. On the other hand this could also be a allergic reaction to a protien in wheat. But the child would also react to anything that has wheat in it. Children can outgrow an allergy aswell, so sometimes it may be hard for even a doctor to tell weather or not it is an intolerance or an allergy without a blood test.

MSG (Mono-soduim glutamate) a flavor in foods, is a common trigger for a food intolerance. It is used as a flavor enhancer and can cause flushing, headaches, and numbness in certain people. Its not known how much MSG is needed to trigger a reaction, but it varries from person to person. Generally large amounts cause more severe allergic reactions.

Sulfites, used as a preservitive in many foods and wines, can cause sensitivity as well as trigger allergic reations. It depends on the person, the best way to check is to have a blood test done by a allergy specialist. They will be able to determain which type of reaction is causing you or your child problems, and properly treat what ever it is.

Acne What Causes It?

Many individuals suffer from acne, not just adolescents. Acne is caused by normally occurring bacteria, Propionibacterium acnes. This bacterium gets trapped in plugged skin pores or follicles, especially in the face. In an attempt to escape, the bacterium produce enzymes used to break down the sebum (the excretion produced by sebaceous glands) blocking the escape routes. When the enzymes go to work one of the side effects is inflammation in the area.

Light to moderate cases of inflammation show up as pimples and bumps. This type of acne is known as superficial acne. If the inflammation is deeper within the skin and pores, resulting in cysts and nodules, it is called cystic acne.

The excess sebum is actually a byproduct of testosterone production in the body. This is why young adolescent boys going through puberty and other individuals who are taking testosterone enhanced dietary supplements most often exhibit signs of acne. In women, the hormonal changes occurring before the menstrual cycle may also cause sporadic outbreaks.

A second cause of acne can be traced to diet and a lack of essential fatty acids. The body needs a particular quantity of essential fatty acids to remain in balance. The typical Western diet does not provide adequate amounts for most people. In place of essential fatty acids, trans-fats and other non-essential fats are found in large quantities. This fat ratio imbalance tips the scale in favor of excess sebum production leading to outbreaks of acne.

Particular chemicals and drugs may also be a factor in the appearance of acne. Any drug with added hormones or that change the hormonal balance of the body is a possible culprit. Corticosteroids and industrial pollutants may also be a contributing factor.

Overall health is crucial to remaining acne free. This includes a healthy diet, improved colon health, gentle but effective skin care and decreased exposure to chemicals and drugs which can affect the natural hormone levels of the body.

My discovery came to me by accidentally removing an asbestos material in my home. The resulting condition of the whole house after this accident left me with a sore chest, dry and unbearably iching skin and eyes. My wife complained of extreme thirst and my oldest son, age 14, developed severe asthma. This all continued for five to six months. During this time I tried desparately to determine if we were living in an unsafe level of asbestos. The material that I had removed was tested and found to contain 20% crysitile asbestos. Air sampling proved to be unreliable because the area had been ventilated so well. But the furnishings, carpets, walls and all other personal belongings were covered the remnants of the demolition.Everyone wanted to play down the seriousness of the situation, but, to me it was obviously not a healthy environment.

So, I set out to try to logically deduce, with a knowledge of the physical properties of asbestos, when I encountered the substance as I attempted to clean every surface and item in every room of the house.

That was fifteen years ago. During that time, as I learned more about where we all encounter asbestos materials on a daily basis. I made mental notes concerning my and others' reactions to these encounters. Many situations have arisen ranging from sore throats and skin conditions(acne and basil cell skin cancer) to asthma, pneumonia and death. I don't have clinical proof of these claims I've made, except to say if it looks, walks and sounds like a duck it probably is a duck. Many times clinical trials are verified by producing the same results in subsequent testing. Deductive reasoning can also be verified in the same way. If the same results are observed again and again after low level exposure to these remnants then that is proof to me.

Without writing a book, I wouldn't have the space to detail every observation I've made during this period, but I can assure you that no contact with asbestos is without a possible adverse health consequence.

Asbestos is a very lightweight chrystal-like material with highly static electrical properties. It often produces a static discharge like when one is shocked by touching the metal switch plate or door knob in their home. It often leaves a bitter-salty taste in your mouth. It can stay airborne for days at a time. It absorbs moisture and produces a very dry environment (which only makes the static electric situation worse.)

The loose material may be accidentally contacted in a number of building types and situations.

Many buildings built before 1977 have vinyl asbestos floor tile. No one can avoid walking on this, if they enter the building. This is fine if the floor is well maintained. Look out for broken or worn and never waxed tile. This applies to any location in the building, commercial or residential. Closets are very seldom waxed. Items stored there will accumulate certain amounts of this substance.

Anytime an older building is renovated the possibility exists for a number of materials containing asbestos to be encountered. The contractor does't always do the right thing. In many instances it is cheaper to pay the fine if he is caught. So he just tears it out and throws it in the dumpster or hauls it to the dump himself. As a consequence, many newly renovated stores have a certain amount of this dust on the shelves and new merchandise in the store.

There are many more instances of contact for which I don't have the time to detail here, but basically, with the characteristics of the material, knowledge of where you may encounter the substance and many hours of observation (I've been in construction over thirty years), you too can make the same deductive conclutions that I have made.

In subsequent articles I intend to go into detail on the unique physical properties of asbestos and how this promotes detection in your hair and clothes. In future articles I would also like to expand on the many other health effects I've noticed, such as acne, which could benifit many young adults and a number of people who continue with this complexion problem into adulthood.

This is a short overview of a questionnaire used for substance abuse attitude testing in testing a CREATE (Curriculum Renewal and Evaluation of Addiction Training and Education) effects on Medical Students. My afterthoughts on substance abuse attitude testing are in the end of the article.

The survey overview

Questions 1-8 check the comfort level of a respondent.
Questions 9-38 deal with general attitudes.
Questions 39-51 deal students' attitudes to pregnancy.

In the first part of this substance abuse attitude testing sheet students had to answer to several question concerning the level of comfort when asking patients about various kinds of addictions (smoking, alcohol and drug) and talking about their effects. The second part deals mostly with students' view of illicit substances abuse in their neighborhood and at work as well as their opinions on personal effects of drug abusing.

The first part of this substance abuse attitude test was the most important in the whole survey for it checked the students' attitudes to pregnancy and substances abuse and their tolerance to them. Questions included smoking, drinking alcohol and drug use acceptance.

The sample questions may be found at http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mim0978/is327/ai77480932/pg2, but unfortunately there is no place on the Net where the full form of this substance abuse attitude testing sheet is available to download.

Afterthoughts

What were the effects of the survey? Almost none. It seems (as other uses of this questionnaire shows) that short term courses on the effects of drug abuse changes nothing is perception of this problem. Maybe somebody should think of some better way to spend money on drug use prevention? Some long-term courses or mandatory long-term help programs that deal with drug addicts' may be one of the solutions, but it is possible that we have to use some very different approach to changing people's attitude toward substance abuse, the one that will leave short-term courses and leaflets in favor of something else. But what would it be, I honestly don't know.

If you happen to have any idea on this subject, publish it. I've been looking for publications on this subject for a long time, but I was unable to find anything worthy of noticing.

Katie came as close as is possible to having it all. Great job, loving family, boyfriend, social life? That was until she developed anxiety?

?There were rumours of redundancy in our department. Just rumours. But that was enough to start me off. I became very anxious. Every Monday, I?d head for work, convinced I was about to be told to go. I started worrying about what I?d do if I was made redundant ? and despite years of experience in my field, I convinced myself that I was unemployable, that no other company would consider me. I felt useless?

Katie now recognises that the irrational thoughts were all part of the anxiety.

?Gradually, it was robbing me of all my confidence, first in my professional self, then in me as a person. It?s bizarre but had I been made redundant, I?d have just gotten on with it and I?d have probably been OK. But the stress of my job and the worry over IF my name was on the list, that was enough to trigger the anxiety.?

As her anxiety grew, so her relationships became affected. ?I felt nobody understood what I was going through. Not even my boyfriend. He tried to be supportive but neither he nor my family could really understand. That?s why it?s so important to people with anxiety to talk to somebody who KNOWS what it?s like. It?s only people who?ve lived through it who actually know how awful it is that can help you overcome anxiety!?

Katie?s anxiety led her to start missing work.

?It?s ironic really? but I was never made redundant! Far from it, the company I work for were actually really supportive and agreed to let me have time off. I had days and days of growing increasingly obsessed about my anxiety? and spent hours trawling the internet for a miracle cure.?

Katie found The Linden Method? and although initially skeptical about some of the claims, decided to give it a try.

?When I read the website, at first I couldn?t believe the claims. I mean, I KNEW how bad I felt, knew how awful it was. And here was this man telling me I could be BETTER in a matter of days.

However, the Method just makes common sense. I realised that I wasn?t ill. I hadn?t developed a mental condition. And I wasn?t going mad! My anxiety stemmed from a bad behavioural habit that had gone out of control ? in my case, it was a constant need to prove myself ? both to myself and everybody around me.

Katie has now returned to work full time and is planning on starting a family in the next year or so.

?I went from being this go-getter to hiding away behind my bedroom door! I?d been used to living at a certain level, being this dynamic career girl. I would be responsible for making really vital decisions for the company? but when I became anxious, I couldn?t even decide what to wear! I?d still be hiding now, if it wasn?t for the Linden Method.

US Healthcare What's Wrong with it?

We spend 2-3 times as much on our healthcare as most of the countries that now have ?socialized medicine?. Yet, every country with socialized medicine has much better overall health statistics. As a matter fact, we are hovering around 32nd in the world. Even some ?third world? countries are ahead of us.

How can this be? The richest country in the world, spending more than any other country, yet the health is one of the worst! What?s wrong? How have we come to this state of affairs?

There are a variety of reasons. Let?s look at some of these, and look at the alternate answer:

1. There?s a lot of talk about 40-50 million ?uninsured? people in the US. ?Uninsured? doesn?t mean that they aren?t taken care of. No Emergency Room can turn down anyone who comes for ?treatment?. (Although many hospitals try to shift ?poor? people to county or state facilities for profits sake.)

There?s also Medicaid for the very poor. But, that still leaves the great majority of ?uninsured? swinging in the wind. They make just a little too much money to qualify for Medicaid, or the state they live in has run out of money and facilities. (Under the Bush Administration, the cuts in Medicaid have limited this coverage in virtually every state.) A severe medical problem bankrupts many of these families every year.

Who pays for Medicare and Emergency visits? The usual - US taxpayers! So, like it or not, we already have a ?sort of? socialized medicine.

By the way, when did the phrase ?socialized medicine? become a bad phrase? (Was it another ?spin? fostered by ?vested interests??) How often have you heard ?just ask a Canadian about their socialized medicine??

Ask 100 persons from any country(s) that has socialized medicine two questions: ?How do you like it?? and ?Would you like to get rid of it?.

The answers to the first question are often a lot of individual complaining. Yet, the answer to the second question is an overwhelming ?Never?. Could this dichotomy be the reason that so many people in the US ?think? that socialized medicine is bad - those ?bitching? (and very human) answers. Most people ask only the first question, NOT the second. I?ve asked both, and have yet to find a Canadian or a Brit who answers ?yes? to the second question, but many, or most, will find something to complain about.

Isn?t it interesting that all the ?civilized industrial nations? in Europe and elsewhere have some version of socialized medicine? Even in almost bankrupt Russia and Georgia, healthcare is free to all. And, even their health statistics are better than ours. (FYI, they also subsidize any ?bright? student all the way to a ?doctorate? if they are smart enough. College tuition in the US is prohibitively high for mid and low income families - are we wasting a major resource? You bet!)

2. Why is our health care costing so much? Simple - the insurance companies are running it. They make huge profits for this ?service?. Cut out the middleman - the insurance companies, and cut the costs by an impartial estimate between a third and a half!

What other benefits would this have? Doctors would have more time to talk to patients, and spend less time, and office staff filling out forms to get paid. When was the last time your MD spent more than 2 minutes with you?

Let?s not overlook the fact that prevention is always better than catastrophe! All too often, when a poor person winds up in an Emergency Room, the cost of their problem is much more than it would be if that person had had insurance that allowed doctor visits to head off catastrophe with some prevention. This is a major factor favoring socialized medicine.

There?s still another factor in this equation. Malpractice insurance (more profits to insurance companies)! We do need to limit this. Some formulas have to be developed for how much any doctor can be sued for. And, medical boards need to oversee MD?s (and their mistakes) much closer. Doctors do make mistakes! And, the injured have a right to be compensated for such! What do the other countries do about this problem? Has anyone made any study of this?

3. There is another often overlooked problem. We, as a nation, have a terrible diet! We eat ?fast foods? way too often. We eat too few ?healthy foods?, and too many ?high carbohydrate? foods. The statistics show clearly that a poor diet on the part of a mother results in a baby that is not nearly as healthy as it should be.

Take a look at some ?poor? natives of African countries in photographs. Look especially at the wide mouths full of very strong, very even, teeth. Compare this to the US ?standard? of two very prominent front teeth, a high narrow arch to the roof of the mouth, and crowding of the rest of the teeth. Dr Von Hilsheimer of Maitland Florida wrote a book years ago detailing the various ?abnormalities? and ?anomalies? of children of poor diet mothers. There is a definite correlation between these children and increasing allergy and sensitivity in our children

Recently I read a very interesting article about a school that changed the diets of the attending students, and by this simple change only, the entire attitude and moral outlook of the students was changed. It was very simple! They took out all the soda machines, and replaced them with water fountains. They eliminated hamburgers and fries, and similar poor diet foods, and emphasized fruits and veggies. Lo, and behold, the school which had previously been shunned by teachers because of unruly students was completely changed! Students were calm, quiet, and learned more and better than other schools in the area. Acts of violence or vandalism were eliminated. There are several other similar studies which school boards do not pay enough attention to.

As a result of our overall ?poor? diet, we, as a nation, get sick more often than other countries. This adds to the cost of healthcare tremendously in this country.

4. The American Medical Assn, one of the strongest unions in the world, backed up by the huge drug industry (Big Pharma), and the insurance industry have the power and the money to ?buy? enough politicians to prevent any ?reasonable? health plan. Bill and Hilary Clinton found this out in his first year in office. There?s so much money involved, it may be impossible to even get anything done except a ?Band-Aid? on the cancer.

What can we, as individuals, do? Start asking the politicians we elect what their previous votes have been, and what their future votes will be on these questions. Vote for those who will vote for at least a form of socialized medicine. And throw out the other rascals. Our votes are powerful, and we need to use them wisely.

Solihull Back Pain Clinic Osteopath reviews sacroiliac joint inflammation and its role in low back pain

Sacroiliac Joint Inflammation

The Sacroiliac joint is a common cause of low back pain and often mistaken for problems in the low back such as sciatica, disc bulges or slipped discs. Radiating pain can travel into the buttock and upper thigh and even affect the testicles on males.

The sacroiliac joint is a pelvic, not low back problem and will appear to affect the lower back. Symptoms can vary from mild to severe and will affect mobility.

What is a Sacroiliac Joint?

The sacroiliac joints are located at the bottom of the back. You have one either side of the spine. The sacroiliac joints help make up the rear part of the pelvic girdle and sit between the sacrum, which is the wedge shaped bone at the bottom of your spine and the pelvic ilium bones.

There are torsional or twisting forces applied to the pelvic girdle when the lower limbs are moved.

These limbs act like long levers and without the sacroiliac joints and the pubic symphysis (at the front of the pelvis) which act like expansion joints and allow movement, the pelvis would be very likely be subject to a fracture.

These joints can often get stuck, or in some cases one half of the pelvis may glide forwards or backwards, which is often described as a twisted pelvis. When this occurs it often irritates the iliolumbar ligament which results in inflammation and pain. This is usually indicated by tenderness around the bony lumps which you can feel if you place your thumbs either side of your lower back.

Inflammation of the sacroiliac joints and associated ligaments are very common, especially following pregnancy where the hormone Relaxin is released resulting in a relaxation of ligaments in preparation for childbirth. In most cases the causes of sacroiliitis are mechanical, however there may be other medical inflammatory conditions present such as Ankylosing Spondylitis which will need attention.

Symptoms Include

Pain usually one sided, located either to the left or right of your low back. The pain may range from an ache to a sharp pain which can restrict movement.

The pain may radiate out into your buttocks and low back and will often radiate into the front of your groin. Occasionally it is responsible for testicular pain in males.

Occasionally there may be referred pain into the lower limb which can be mistaken for sciatica.

Classic symptoms include, difficulty turning over in bed and often this movement wakes you from sleep. Struggling to put on your socks and shoes and throwing your legs in and out of a vehicle when moving in and out of the car.

Stiffness in the low back when standing from sitting or getting out of bed in the morning.

Aching in low back when driving long distances

Treatment for Sacroiliac Joint Inflammation

Ice the area over the sacroiliac joint to reduce pain and inflammation. Use an ice pack wrapped in a damp teatowel and apply for 10 minutes on, 20 minutes off and then a further 10 minutes on. Do this 3 times daily.

Sleep with a pillow between your knees to ease the stress on the pelvis and sleep on your side.

Seek help from someone who understands the sacroiliac joint well. At Solihull Back Pain Clinic we see approximately 5 patients every day with this condition and have experience in diagnosing the causes, which can be many and varied. In order to resolve the complaint it is important to accurately diagnose the problem and have the correct treatment plan available.
